Our Secrets to a Great Night’s Sleep
Sleeping well while traveling can make or break your vacation. Waking up refreshed, recharged, and ready to explore (or relax!) is exactly what we aim for when we design and furnish our Tucson vacation rental homes. We continually work to ensure our guests experience the highest level of comfort—especially when it comes to sleep.
Over the years, many guests have asked about our mattresses, bedding, and other sleep tips, hoping to recreate that same quality of rest at home. Whether you want ideas to improve your own bedroom or you’re searching for the best vacation rental in Tucson for sleep quality, here are nine ways we address common travel sleep concerns and create an exceptional night’s sleep in all our properties.
1. Quality Bed Frames & Mattresses
A great bed is the foundation of great sleep. That’s why we’ve often chosen Thuma bed frames for our Tucson vacation rentals. Known for world-class craftsmanship using Japanese joinery and simple, solid design, Thuma frames don’t squeak, sag, or shift—just dependable comfort and gorgeous style.
Our fiberglass-free mattresses add another layer of safety and coziness. We primarily use three guest-favorite brands: Tuft & Needle Mint, Casper, and Helix Midnight Luxe. We’ve made it a priority to avoid memory foam mattresses with fiberglass, which can cause skin irritation and respiratory issues—yes, it’s a real concern, and yes, it’s surprisingly common!
2. 100% Cotton or Linen Sheets
We pair our premium beds with crisp white Kirkland Signature 100% Pima cotton sheets, known for their soft, sleek, and breathable sateen finish. Cotton keeps you cool and comfortable all night—unlike microfiber, which can trap heat and make you feel clammy.
Prefer a softer, cozier texture? We also recommend a European flax linen sheet for year-round comfort, as they are breathable for warmer summer weather but also feel softer for cold winter nights. With a naturally wrinkled finish, they look cozy and relaxed. While they are pricier, the comfort and quality are worth it! We love Tuft & Needle’s linen cotton blend sheets or, for the ultimate splurge, check out Parachute’s linen sheets. For layering, we top beds with a European linen duvet cover plus a down alternative duvet insert—never the “triple sheeting” method some hotels use, which can leave you tangled in layers and disrupt sleep.
3. Great Pillows
Flat, lifeless hotel pillows are a thing of the past here. We have both down alternative pillows and Tuft & Needle original foam pillows on our beds so you can choose your preferred support. The foam pillows are especially popular—not too firm, too soft, or too tall—just right for sinking into sleep.
4. Bedside Lighting
Lighting matters when winding down. Each bed has its own bedside lamp with an easy-to-reach switch, perfect for reading or scrolling without disturbing your partner. Some of our favorites include IKEA Nymane and other swing arm lamps with a dimmer.
5. White Noise
Even in quiet neighborhoods, a little background sound can help you sleep better. That’s why every bedroom is equipped with a Dohm white noise machine, providing soothing, consistent sound to block out unwanted noise. We particularly like this brand because it has a fan inside instead of a looping digital sound. Parents love them for helping kids fall asleep before the adults are ready to turn in.
6. Blackout Window Treatments
Need a perfectly dark room to fall asleep? Us, too! That’s why we’ve installed day-to-night blackout cellular or roller blinds in all bedrooms, custom-made by local Tucson outfitter Desert Window Wear. These keep out early morning light so you can sleep in as long as you’d like. We even make sure indicator lights on bedroom TVs are disabled to keep the room completely dark.
7. Temperature Control
All of our vacation rental homes are equipped with efficient heating and cooling systems, pre-programmed to cool down at night. Most bedrooms also feature ceiling fans for gentle air circulation—ideal for desert nights when you prefer fresh airflow. Going to sleep in a cooler room helps you fall asleep faster and stay asleep.
8. Overall Room Ambience
We design each bedroom to feel like your own private resort—beautiful decor, high-quality furniture, and a layout that invites relaxation. Did you know that we also offer residential interior design services? Message us to see if we’d be a good fit to help give your space a makeover!
9. Cleanliness
Hotels often wash quilts every 1–4 weeks—we think that’s far too long. In our homes, white linens are used so guests can see for themselves they’re spotless. Sheets, quilts, and duvets are washed in hot water with Everspring unscented detergent after every single guest. If it’s been used, it gets washed—no exceptions.
For your personal home, aim for washing your linens every week. We recommend building it into your weekly routine on a specific day to help you stay on schedule.
Rest Easy in the Desert
From the first moment you sink into our carefully chosen mattresses to the soft glow of bedside lighting and the hush of a perfectly darkened room, every detail in our Tucson vacation rentals is designed to help you truly rest. We’ve tested, refined, and obsessed over the little things so that your nights are as memorable as your days—whether you’re here to explore the Sonoran Desert or simply unwind.
